What’s not allowed

• Large bags and backpacks are not allowed inside the Complex. Please remember that there are no cloakrooms at the site.

• Flash photography, tripods, filming equipment, food, and drinks are not permitted inside the Cathedral.

• Pets (except service animals) are also prohibited.

• Children under the age of 7 are not allowed to climb the Dome or the Bell Tower. Those between the age of 7-14 must be accompanied by an adult.

Accessibility

• An accessible entrance is located on the right side of the Cathedral for guests with motor disabilities. The dome climb is not suitable for wheelchair users or people with motor disabilities.

• The fee is only for the audio guide, since Cathedral entry is free.

• The Cathedral is open to visitors from Monday to Saturday, 10:15am to 3:45pm. It remains closed on Sundays and during religious celebrations.

• Entry is subject to a security check and dress code compliance (knees and shoulders must be covered. Sleeveless tops, short, and other revealing clothing are forbidden).

• The complex’s staircases are narrow and steep, expect a physically demanding climb.

The history of the Florence Duomo dates back to the late 13th century when the city decided to replace the old and dilapidated Santa Reparata church with a grander structure. The design was entrusted to Arnolfo di Cambio, who envisioned a massive Gothic cathedral that would reflect Florence's growing power and wealth. Brunelleschi’s Dome:

• Monday to Friday: 8:15 AM–6:45 PM
• Saturday: 8:15 AM–4:30 PM
• Sunday: 12:45 PM–5:15 PM
• Access is strictly timed.

Giotto’s Bell Tower:

• Open daily from 8:15 AM to 6:45 PM
• Access is timed.

Baptistery of San Giovanni:

• Open daily from 8:30 AM to 7:30 PM
• On the first Sunday of each month, it closes early at 1:30 PM.

General closures:

• All monuments in the Duomo complex are closed on Easter Sunday, December 25, and January 1.

Florence Duomo mass times:

Mass is celebrated regularly inside Florence Cathedral. Entry for services is free and does not require registration. During Mass, sightseeing access may be limited.

• Weekdays (Monday–Saturday): 7:30 AM, 8:30 AM, 9:30 AM, 6:00 PM
• English Mass: Saturdays at 5:00 PM (held at Misericordia on the first Saturday of each month)
• Sundays: 7:30 AM, 9:00 AM, 10:30 AM (Gregorian chant), 12:00 PM, 6:00 PM
• Vespers with chants: 5:30 PM

• By bus: City bus lines 6, 11, 17, 23, and C2 stop near Piazza del Duomo or within a short walking distance.
• By train: Santa Maria Novella (SMN) is the nearest main train station. From there, the Duomo is about a 10–15 minute walk through the historic center.
