The history of the Alcázar of Seville spans over a thousand years, beginning with its origins as a Muslim fortress in the 10th century. Abd al-Rahman III ordered its construction. In the 11th century, the Abbadid dynasty expanded the fortress into a palace. Following the Christian conquest of Seville in 1248, King Alfonso X transformed the Alcázar into a royal residence. He incorporated Gothic architectural elements, initiating the fusion of styles that characterizes the palace today. In the 14th century, King Peter I commissioned extensive renovations, resulting in the stunning Mudéjar architecture seen today. Later monarchs continued to add to and modify the Alcázar, creating a layered tapestry of architectural styles. Today, the Alcázar stands as a testament to Seville's multicultural past and enduring royal legacy.

The Alcázar is generally open daily, but hours vary depending on the season. From April to September, opening hours are typically from 9:30 AM to 7:00 PM. From October to March, hours are typically 9:30 AM to 5:45 PM. ( last entry 5:00pm) 

The Alcázar is closed on January 1st, January 6th, Good Friday, and December 25th.

The best time to visit the Alcázar is early in the morning or later in the afternoon to avoid the midday crowds. Weekdays are generally less crowded than weekends. Consider visiting during the spring or fall for pleasant weather and fewer tourists. During the summer, the gardens offer a cool escape from the Seville heat.
