The Moorish Castle sits high in the Sintra hills above Sintra, about 30 km (19 miles) from Lisbon. Most visitors reach the castle by train to Sintra followed by local transport up the mountain.

By train from Lisbon:

• Direct trains run frequently from Lisbon to Sintra.
• Departure stations: Rossio (most convenient from central Lisbon), Oriente, or Entrecampos.
• Travel time: About 40 minutes.
• Arrival station: Sintra train station.

From Sintra to the Moorish Castle:

Once you arrive in Sintra, several options are available:

• Bus 434 (Circuito da Pena): The most common option. This tourist bus departs from the train station and stops at the Moorish Castle and Pena Palace. The ride takes about 15 minutes.
