MALBA was founded in September 2001 with the goal of collecting, preserving, studying and promoting Latin American art from the early twentieth century to the present. The museum’s collection includes approximately 700 works by Latin American artists, including Frida Kahlo, Diego Rivera, Fernando Botero, and Tarsila do Amaral. In addition to its permanent collection, MALBA hosts a variety of temporary exhibitions throughout the year, showcasing the work of both established and emerging Latin American artists. The museum's building, designed by the Argentine architectural studio AFT Architects, is a modern landmark in Buenos Aires. Its architecture reflects the innovative spirit of the art it houses. MALBA also features a library, a documentation center, an auditorium, and a café, making it a comprehensive cultural center.
