Historia

The construction of Peleș Castle began in 1873 under the patronage of King Carol I, Romania's first monarch. He envisioned a royal summer residence that would reflect the country's growing prosperity and his personal taste for German Neo-Renaissance architecture. The king meticulously oversaw every detail of the construction, which involved numerous architects, builders, and artisans from across Europe. The castle was officially inaugurated in 1883, though additions and refinements continued until 1914. It was the first fully electrified castle in Europe and boasted many other modern amenities. Peleș served as the primary summer residence for the Romanian royal family until 1947, when the monarchy was abolished by the communist regime. During the communist era, the castle was briefly opened to the public as a museum but later became a private retreat for state officials. After the Romanian Revolution of 1989, Peleș Castle was reopened as a museum, becoming one of Romania's most significant historical and architectural landmarks.
