• The time slot you choose is for access to the Black Madonna. You must factor in your commute time from Barcelona and the uphill walk. Plan and catch a train at least 1.5 hours before your reserved time.

The history of Montserrat Monastery dates back to the 9th century when a chapel was built on the mountain. According to legend, the Black Madonna statue was discovered in a cave, leading to the establishment of the monastery. In 1025, Abbot Oliba founded the monastery, which quickly became an important pilgrimage site. The Aeri de Montserrat cable car and the Montserrat Rack Railway provide scenic access to the monastery. Several bus lines also connect nearby towns to Montserrat.
