Brussels, a city with a rich and complex history, serves as a fascinating backdrop for a Hop-On Hop-Off Bus Tour. Founded in the 6th century, it grew from a small settlement on the Senne river into a significant trading post. Over centuries, it came under the rule of various powers, including the Dukes of Burgundy, the Spanish Habsburgs, and the French. Each era left its indelible mark, visible in the city's diverse architecture, from medieval guildhalls of the Grand Place to the grand 19th-century boulevards. Brussels played a pivotal role in the formation of Belgium in 1830 and was subsequently designated its capital. Its strategic location in Europe led to its selection as the de facto capital of the European Union, making it a hub for international politics and diplomacy. The city's landmarks, like the Royal Palace, the Atomium (built for Expo '58), and the European Parliament, each tell a story of innovation, conflict, and cultural exchange. A hop-on hop-off tour provides a narrative thread, connecting these historical points and allowing visitors to appreciate the layers of history that make Brussels the unique city it is today.
