Getting There

By Train: Take the FGC (Ferrocarrils de la Generalitat de Catalunya) train from Plaça Espanya in Barcelona to the Aeri de Montserrat station.

By Car: Drive along the Ctra. C55 (Abrera – Manresa), with free parking available near the cable car base station

The history of Montserrat Monastery dates back to the 9th century when a chapel was built on the mountain. According to legend, the Black Madonna statue was discovered in a cave, leading to the establishment of the monastery. In 1025, Abbot Oliba founded the monastery, which quickly became an important pilgrimage site.
