تاريخ
The construction of Topkapi Palace began in 1459, six years after the Ottoman conquest of Constantinople, under the orders of Sultan Mehmed the Conqueror. The palace was conceived as a symbol of Ottoman power and a center for the empire's administration. Over the centuries, subsequent Sultans expanded and modified the palace, adding new structures and embellishments.
For nearly four centuries, Topkapi Palace served as the primary residence of the Ottoman Sultans and the administrative heart of the empire. During this time, it witnessed countless historical events, from imperial ceremonies to political intrigues. In the mid-19th century, Sultan Abdulmejid I moved the imperial residence to Dolmabahçe Palace, marking the end of Topkapi's era as the center of Ottoman power.
In 1924, following the dissolution of the Ottoman Empire, Topkapi Palace was transformed into a museum. Today, it stands as one of Istanbul's most popular tourist attractions, drawing approximately 3.4 million visitors each year from around the world to explore its rich history and architectural splendor. The palace’s designation as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1985 further underscores its cultural and historical significance.

Навігація трохи заплутана, але загалом сподобалось.
Even though it was packed with people, the skip-the-line entry made things move quickly. I really enjoyed seeing the history and beauty up close.
We found it hard to see both Hagia Sophia and Topkapi fully in the time given, even skipping some exhibits. The audio guide did help us focus our limited time, however.
The tour allowed us to avoid the outside queue which was great in the heat. However, inside the palace it was still quite warm and stuffy.
The ticket helped avoid a long queue, but the tour felt a bit rushed at times. It was still a good way to see the palace, but a slower pace would've been appreciated.
The ticket access helped with the queues, making entry faster. However, allocating enough time for both sites in one visit felt a bit rushed.
There is no dress code at Topkapi Palace, but it is wise to avoid overly revealing clothing if you plan to visit nearby sites such as Hagia Sophia or the Blue Mosque.
Comfortable clothing and shoes are recommended, as the palace complex involves a lot of walking.
